Core Technology

Despite the fact that ammonia usage could potentially provide the solutions to overcome a wide variety of technical obstacles today, the danger of working with ammonia limits the number of situations in which it can be safely used. Therefore, the question is this:

"Could there be a safe way to store and release ammonia?"

Answer: " Yes. The Amminex way!"
Image
Amminex can bind ammonia chemically in an ammoniated salt and compact it to achieve a very high density. Our product, AdAmmine, has a volumetric capacity similar to liquid ammonia.

The result is safety: It is a non-pressurized system at room temperature.

The risk level of a substance is often closely related to its vapor pressure. The faster it evaporates, the more dangerous it is. The vapor pressure of liquid ammonia is 8 bar, whereas the vapor pressure of ammonia from AdAmmine is always below 1 bar at room temperature.

Controlled ammonia release

Ammonia can be released on-demand by controlled thermal desorption. Amminex has developed control  strategies to ensure optimal and safe performance. As the ammonia is released  from the AdAmmine, it leaves behind a porous structure allowing the ammonia from deeper within the AdAmmine block to easily find its way out.

Two applications

Once a safe and easy way of storing and releasing ammonia is available, several very interesting applications can be developed. Initially, Amminex has focused on two applications: NOx reductant delivery  system for diesel vehicles and ammonia-based energy storage for fuel cell systems.

The company's core technology can be applied to industry solutions or end-user applications where it is essential to safely and economically store ammonia for direct ammonia gas application or where ammonia is used as hydrogen carrier for hydrogen generation.

Facts

Ammonia is on the top-three list of most produced chemicals in the world.
